Angelina Jolie's kids 'very happy' about mum's villainous Maleficent role

March 27, 2012 - Washington

Angelina Jolie, who plays a negative role in the new movie 'Maleficent', said that her kids are quite excited about their mom starring in the flick.

The 36-year-old actress has signed on for the title role in a live action film based on Disney's 1959 adaptation of 'Sleeping Beauty'.

"It's a really great script. I'm having a lot of fun. I've already got my horns fitted," Us Magazine quoted Jolie as telling Entertainment Weekly.

"My kids are very happy," she said.

Jolie, who will begin production on the film in June, spoke about the new take on the fairytale classic.

"It's not anti-princess, but it's the first time they're looking at this epic woman [in a different way].

"I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn't mean she can't have other [warmer] qualities,"

"You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is," she said.

The 'Salt' star also said that there are some redeeming qualities to her character, despite being ruthless in 'Sleeping Beauty'.

"It sounds really crazy to say that there will be something that's good for young girls in this, because it sounds like you're saying they should be a villain.

"[Maleficent] is actually a great person. But she's not perfect. She's far from perfect," Jolie said.

Jolie has already begun working with the costume department to perfect her look.

"We're experimenting with different things.

"But the horns are the horns - you can't deny them. You have to have horns," she added.
