Tom Hanks planning to attend Aston Villa game

November 5, 2011 - New York

Tom Hanks is planning to go to Birmingham to watch Aston Villa in action this football season.

Hanks has been a fan of the club for 10 years but has never got the chance to watch them play.

He himself typed out a letter to Rick Leong, the chairman of the Aston Villa Lions' Club in California telling of his desire to go to Villa Park.

"Tom Hanks is an honorary life member of AVFC California and has his own membership card. Every year I send him a membership card with a note that says he is an honorary life member," The Daily Express quoted Leong as saying.

The headline of Hanks' letter reads 'Tom Hanks - actor, producer, director' but he added 'Aston Villa fan' to it. It is a short note that says "If luck stays with me, I will catch a match this season...Up the Villa."

"When I opened the post, Tom Hanks had written a very short note and signed it. I'm sure Villa Park would welcome him with open arms," Leong said.
