Richard Gere selling off 'prized' guitar collection for charity

August 18, 2011 - Washington

Richard Gere, who has amassed a huge guitar collection over the past 20 years including several top branded instruments such as Gibson and Fender, is reportedly auctioning them for humanitarian charities.

His 110-strong range, which is expected to fetch about one million dollars, also includes guitars once owned by blues legend Albert King and Jamaican reggae musician Peter Tosh.

The 'Pretty Woman' star is preparing to part ways with his prized pieces at a Christie's auction in New York in October (11).

"They have been my true friends through the best and worst of times. I never planned to put together a collection. I just bought ones that I liked, the ones that sounded good and played well," Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

"Some are very special. Although it's more than a little painful to let them go, each one has been played, loved and appreciated - and will be again," he added.
