Richard Gere to auction off his collection of 110 guitars for charity

August 20, 2011 - London

American actor Richard Gere is all set to auction off his collection of 110 guitars in New York in October, and the sale is expected to fetch a whopping 1 million dollars.

According to Christie's, the collection includes a 1958 Gibson Flying V, once owned by bluesman Albert King, that is tipped to go for up to 90,000 dollars.

Gere said it was "more than a little painful" to let go of a collection that took 20 years to build.

"They have been my true friends through the best and worst of times," the BBC quoted him as saying.

Proceeds from the 11 October auction would help to fund humanitarian causes globally, the actor said.
