'Glee' star Cory Monteith opens up about struggle with drugs

June 24, 2011 - Melbourne

'Glee' star Cory Monteith has opened up for the first time about his addiction to drugs, which had almost killed him.

The 29-year-old, who plays lead character 'Finn Hudson' on the hit musical TV show, has revealed about his troubled past, including time in rehab and stealing money.

"I'm not Finn Hudson. I'm lucky to be alive," quoted him as saying in an interview with Parade magazine.

He said that by the age 16 his drug use involved "anything and everything, as much as possible."

"I was out of control... I had a serious problem. A lot of things went missing when I was around; I had high overhead to take care of," he said.

His mother and a group of friends staged an intervention when he was 19 years old because they were afraid that he would die.

"That's when I first went to rehab. I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing," he added.
