'Dallas' star Hagman diagnosed with 'very common, treatable form of cancer'

October 15, 2011 - Washington

'Dallas' actor Larry Hagman has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

According E! Online, the 80-year-old actor, famous for playing J.R. Ewing in the 1980's series, declined to specify what kind of cancer he's contracted but said he has "a very common and treatable form of cancer."

"As J.R., I could get away with anything - bribery, blackmail and adultery. But I got caught by cancer," Us magazine quoted him as saying.

However, he is determined to continue working on a new reboot of "Dallas" for TNT, which is expected to premiere in the summer of 2012.

"I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series," Hagman said.

"I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can't keep J.R. down!" he added.

TNT and the cast and crew working on Dallas issued their own statement in support of Hagman stating: "We look forward to watching Larry once again work his magic by bringing one of television's most interesting, complex and controversial characters back to the screen in the new Dallas series."
