Barry Humphries set to play Goblin King in 'The Hobbit'

June 20, 2011 - London

Barry Humphries, who was behind the outrageous character of Dame Edna Everage, has been included in the cast of 'The Hobbit'.

The 77-year-old Australian actor is set to star as the Goblin King.

"Barry is perhaps best known for his business and social connections as the long-time manager of Dame Edna Everage," The Telegraph quoted Sir Peter Jackson, the director of the film, as saying.

"He has also been an ardent supporter of the rather misunderstood and unfairly maligned Australian politician, Sir Les Patterson," she said.

"However, in his spare time, Barry is also a fine actor, and we're looking forward to seeing him invest the Goblin King with the delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves," he added.

Peter wrote on his Facebook page that Humphries would be playing the Goblin King just like Andy Serkis' Gollum did in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.
