Kevin Costner to help in Gulf of Mexico oil slick clean up efforts

Actor Kevin Costner is said to be heading to Louisiana to help in the clean-up efforts of the states coastline, which has been threatened by an oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico.

London, May 14 : Actor Kevin Costner is said to be heading to Louisiana to help in the clean-up efforts of the state's coastline, which has been threatened by an oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil spill, caused by a BP rig collapsing, has put local businesses and wildlife in jeopardy after it sent a massive spillage drifting towards the state's shores.

Costner, 55, will jet into Louisiana on May 13 with his scientist brother Dan to demonstrate a new water-oil separation device.

The brothers set up Costner Industries Nevada Corporation (CINC), and have previously promoted a filtration system, designed by Dan Costner, to recycle oil.

According to Billy Nungesser, president of Plaquemines Parish in southern Louisiana, the actor will also be donating 17.3 million pounds to boost relief efforts.

"Sometimes it takes a star to come in with their money and time to make a difference," the Daily Star quoted Nungesser as saying.
