Tom Hanks donates to help restore Rosslyn Chapel

Actor Tom Hanks has made a cash donation to help restore Rosslyn Chapel, where he shot a part of his film The Da Vinci Code.

London, Feb 08 : Actor Tom Hanks has made a cash donation to help restore Rosslyn Chapel, where he shot a part of his film 'The Da Vinci Code.'

Charity bosses said that it was a "very generous" pledge, but did not disclose the amount.

"We were thrilled. Tom Hanks has given us generous support," the Scotsman quoted Colin Glynne-Percy, director for the Rosslyn Chapel Trust, as saying.

Glynne-Percy added: "We are hugely touched by the level of interest and support we have had. There have been very generous donations from the US."

Staff revealed that Hanks e-mailed them expressing willingness to help restore the Midlothian landmark.

The e-mail read: "My fondness for dear Rosslyn Chapel, that dear little piece of history. Few locations in film are so delightful and few destinations live up to their billing, but Rosslyn Chapel was all one could imagine or hope for."

Hanks visited the chapel, built in 1446, while shooting the film adapted from Dan Brown's novel in September 2005.
