Allegations against Howard Stern politically motivated, says attorney

An attorney representing Anna Nicole Smiths boyfriend Howard K. Stern has said that the allegation that he was the late Playboy bunnys principal enabler in acquiring the toxic prescription drugs that claimed her life two years ago are politically motivated.

Washington, April 8 : An attorney representing Anna Nicole Smith's boyfriend Howard K. Stern has said that the allegation that he was the late Playboy bunny's "principal enabler" in acquiring the toxic prescription drugs that claimed her life two years ago are politically motivated.

Attorney Steve Sadow told reporters that State Attorney General Jerry Brown's allegations were a "blatant attempt to advance his own political career."

"He is innocent of the baseless allegations made against him in the criminal complaint. Both Anna and Howard believed in their doctors and relied in good faith on their medical judgment," People magazine quoted Sadow as saying.

Sadow added that Smith was "intelligent, strong and street smart," and "no one told her what to do and when to do it. No one enabled Anna Nicole Smith. She was her own person."

The statement came after Stern and Anna Nicole's psychiatrist neighbour Kristine Eroshevich, both accused of contributing to her drug death, appeared before Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Kristi Lousteau on Tuesday.

Their attorneys told the court that they were not ready to enter pleas.

Lousteau ordered the pair back May 13 for arraignment.

Sadow even said that "Brown, not Howard K. Stern, is the real enabler in this misguided and unprecedented prosecution," and that the State Attorney General was wrong to refer to Smith as a drug addict.
