Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of the US edition of fashion bible Vogue, has been honoured with an OBE (an Order of the British Empire) for services to British journalism and fashion in America.
London, Nov 29 : Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of the US edition of fashion bible Vogue, has been honoured with an OBE (an Order of the British Empire) for services to British journalism and fashion in America.
The 59-year-old lady is touted as a formidable force in her industry and also a fashion icon in her own right.
With her trademark bob haircut and large dark sunglasses, Wintour is seen in the front row of fashion shows across the world.
"It's a great honour, many of my American colleagues are not quite sure what it is," The Telegraph quoted her as saying.
She added: "I've worked very hard to support British fashion in the States through the exhibition called Anglomania, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (in New York), and my support of designers like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano."
Wintour's career began as a teenager, and since then she has worked on a number of publications before turning around British Vogue.
She later flew to America in the late 1980s and took over the helm of Vogue's US counterpart.
Wintour's former personal assistant Lauren Weisberger wrote the best-selling book 'The Devil Wears Prada' about a tyrannical fashion editor, which was later made into a film starring Meryl Streep.
When asked about the movie she said: "I'm wearing Chanel."
Another leading figure from Britain's fashion industry, designer Wale Adeyemi, also received an MBE at the ceremony.
Adeyemi, who is based in London, has created outfits for a host of stars including David and Victoria Beckham and US singer Beyonce.
