Sharon Stones Chinese earthquake comment sparks online uproar

Sharon Stones bad karma comment has sparked uproar amongst netizens, who have condemned the actress and believe that her apology on the issue is not genuine.

New Delhi, May 30 : Sharon Stone's 'bad karma' comment has sparked uproar amongst netizens, who have condemned the actress and believe that her apology on the issue is not genuine.

The 50-year-old actress had made the controversial comment on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival, where she had linked the Chinese earthquake with the country's policy towards Tibet.

And now, cosmetic giant 'Christian Dior' has released an apology statement from the actress, at the same time as announcing her dismissal from its campaign in the country.

The 'Basic Instinct' star's comments have annoyed the Chinese netizens, who said that her apology was insincere.

They "will reject it and not forgive (her)," China Daily quoted them, as saying.

Even before she made her statement of her "wrong speech and behaviour", Chinese online called her ignorant of the Tibet issue and that she had an uncaring attitude towards Chinese people's sorrows, implying her disrespect of life.

In fact, the Chinese uproar against her ruthless comments has made them call for banning Stone's movies from being shown in all Chinese cinemas.

This, added on with comments from online readers from many foreign countries ridiculing her "karma" comments, has made the situation even worse for the Hollywood actress.

"As an American, it makes me embarrassed that Sharon Stone would be so ignorant. She does not represent the feelings of most of us, nor should she be given any press. She is just another useless Hollywood elitist opening her mouth rather than her heart, and that is far too often the case," wrote a reader called Kevin, on the chinadaily.com.cn forum.

"I hope our Chinese friends will know that we Americans are grieving for those killed and affected by this terrible earthquake, and that we wish to help in any way we can. I don't know of anyone who agrees with Ms. Stone's comments," wrote another American reader.

A huge majority of Chinese English readers worldwide have also commented that Stone's comments at Cannes were certainly insulting.

In fact, The Shanghai International Film Festival has also decided to permanently ban Stone and her films.
