SC lifts ban on screening of Jodhaa Akbar till March 14

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan on Tuesday passed an interim order to lift the ban imposed on the screening of Jodhaa Akbar in different parts of the country till March 14.

New Delhi, Mar 04 : A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan on Tuesday passed an interim order to lift the ban imposed on the screening of Jodhaa Akbar in different parts of the country till March 14.

The distributor of the movie, UTV Software Communication had moved the Supreme Court to lift the ban. The distributor said that the film was made fairly for the purpose of entertainment and does not claim to be historically correct.

He adds, "Uttar Pradesh and various cities of Haryana and Uttarakhand have banned the movie in their areas due to political reasons."

UTV's petition complained that the censor board cleared the film for public viewing after ascertaining that it was not against the sovereignty or integrity of India, security of the country, friendly relations with foreign states, public order, decency or morality.
