Rajan Zed, president of the Nevada-based Universal Society of Hinduism, alleges that Hindu terms have been used frivolously in the film.
Another Hindu group, Shri Ramayan Pracharini Sabha, has expressed displeasure over the portrayal of Hindu characters like buffoons in the film.
The religious leaders are afraid that such a depiction of Hindu characters may cause the audiences to believe that all Hindus are like that, reports E!online.
Studio bosses at Paramount Pictures, which is producing the film, says that they are trying to allay the fears of Hindu leaders.
A representative for the studio has said that the film will be screened for Zed and others upon completion.
In the movie, Myers is playing Guru Pitka, the second best guru in India, who is offered two million dollars to head West and heal a star hockey player's broken heart, so that he can get back to the game and win his team the Stanley Cup.
Jessica Alba, Verne Troyer, Justin Timberlake, Deepak Chopra and Ben Kingsley also star in the film.
