London, Mar 21 : With its magical ability to enhance the bust it has found a place in many women's lingerie drawers, and now the evolutionary Wonderbra has been nabbed the title of 'Greatest Fashion Invention Ever'.
According to a poll, conducted by Debenhams, the cleavage-enhancing bra, which created a fashion sensation at its launch in 1994 and became a staple in many women's wardrobes, was a clear winner among the ladies.
It scooped 20 percent of the total votes claiming the first place and pushing boot-cut jeans, pull-in pants at the second and third place, respectively.
Pull-in pants have been designed to flatten the stomach.
The fourth position was grabbed by stilettos. Other everyday essentials to make the list included the little black dress, stockings, kitten heels and strapless bras.
In the poll 3,000 women customers were asked about their fashion favourites.
"Push-up bras have become a wardrobe weapon for millions of women across the world, The Scotsman quoted Caroline Adams, of Debenhams, as saying.
"Fashion items that can help create the perfect silhouette have become must-have items for women and there is no shame in faking the body beautiful. The underwear item not only makes women feel incredibly sexy, but it creates the ultimate cleavage."
"It's good to see boot-cut jeans and stilettos in the top five fashion inventions - both items are classic wardrobe items and will never go out of fashion. It's interesting that more innovative products like chicken fillets and support-tights feature in the line-up too," she added.
