Abbie Cornish, Xavier Rudd voted sexiest Aussie vegetarians

Actor Abbie Cornish and musician Xavier Rudd have been voted Australias sexiest vegetarians in a survey by animal rights group PETA.

Melbourne, June 18 : Actor Abbie Cornish and musician Xavier Rudd have been voted Australia's sexiest vegetarians in a survey by animal rights group PETA.

Cornish, who stars in the upcoming movie 'Stop Loss' and is gaining attention also for her relationship with actor Ryan Phillippe, has beaten stars like radio host Jackie O, singer turned actor Sophie Monk, musicians Missy Higgins and Vanessa Amorosi, and international stars such as Natalie Portman.

The actress has been a vegetarian since she was 13 and revealed that she learnt compassion for animals and about their personalities growing up on a farm in the NSW Hunter Valley.

"I was really puzzled by the idea that people could feel compassion for a dolphin but, at the same time, they were quite prepared to eat a cow or a pig. It was confusing because I thought of all animals as equal," News.com.au quoted her, as saying.

Victorian singer Xavier Rudd, who took the men's title, said he was turned off meat after seeing animals in a factory farm while on tour in California.

"When I realised how animals have to suffer in the meat industry, I decided never to eat meat again", he said.

"The industry's anonymity and the treatment of animals as worthless beings used only for production really annoyed me."

Rudd has beaten fellow musician John Butler and Australian Idol host Andrew G to bag the title.
