Handwritten lyrics of Lennons Give Peace a Chance up for grabs

Handwritten lyrics of John Lennons song Give Peace a Chance will be put up for sale during a rock and pop memorabilia auction at Christies in London on July 10, and a part of the proceeds would be used for helping children harmed by war.

London, June 17 : Handwritten lyrics of John Lennon's song 'Give Peace a Chance' will be put up for sale during a rock and pop memorabilia auction at Christie's in London on July 10, and a part of the proceeds would be used for helping children harmed by war.

Gail Renard, the man who is selling the lyrics, says that Lennon scribbled the words during his "bed-in" with his wife, Yoko, in Montreal in 1969.

The man who was just 16 at the time says that he sneaked into the room at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, and obtained the lyrics.

"I wanted to get John's message out again. He wrote this song about peace and that was important to him. I've had these lyrics for almost 40 years and I've been thinking it's a shame that no one else can see them," Times Online quoted him as saying.

"I don't know exactly what I am going to do with the money but I know I will give some to War Child because that seems very appropriate," he added.

The online report also suggests that the lyrics are expected to fetch one million pounds.

A pair of Lennon's tinted glasses are also expected to fetch up to 30,000 pounds at the auction.

Other Beatles items to go on sale include the bass drum skin seen on the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, and a ticket stub from a Hamburg concert signed by all four Beatles.
