Washington, June 14 : Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon officially ended her seven-year marriage with actor Ryan Phillippe on June 12.
The couple finalized their divorce this week with court documents filed in Los Angeles.The 'Legally Blonde' actress had filed for a divorce in 2006, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.
According to documents, the two - who were seeking shared custody arrangement over children Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4 - "have settled all their remaining issues in these proceedings."
In an interview to Autumn-Winter 2007-2008 of U.K. magazine Man About Town Phillippe said that the separation had left him physically wrecked.
"After the divorce, I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die. I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit," Usmagazine quoted him as saying.
However, Witherspoon is now dating Jake Gyllenhaal, while Phillippe is dating Australian actress Abbie Cornish.
Cornish and Phillippe's romance reportedly blossomed on the set of the their film Stop-Loss, following the 33-year-old actor's split from Witherspoon.
Director Kimberly Peirce said that the Cornish was his first choice to play a Texan soldier's girlfriend because of her duality - being "one of the guys'' and, at the same time, the woman they all fantasise about.
"When we were writing the character we knew we needed a Texan girl who, if you got a flat tyre on your truck she'd go change it, if you needed a gun shot she'd shoot it, and if you got in trouble and you needed to be bailed out, she'd do it," Peirce said.
"She was one of the guys, and yet she was totally a woman. She was the one they would all fantasise about.
"You don't find that in American actresses - I mean you really don't - so she was my top choice,'" he added.
The couple appeared together at the Australians in Film 2008 Breakthrough Awards in Los Angeles, where the 25-year-old actress accepted a gong for her Stop-Loss role.
