London, June11 : While the 'Sex And The City' movie is doing well at the box office globally, it has run into some difficulties in the Middle East, where the censors are objecting to the film's racy dialogue, nudity and even the word "sex" in its title.
Based on the hit HBO series, which ran from 1998 to 2004, the film is finding it difficult to fill up seats in theatres in the Middle East.
With the producers already contemplating a sequel to the film, censors in the Gulf are demanding so many cuts in the movie, which if granted, may not actually leave the film long enough to be released in theatres.
This would leave them with the only option to release the film in DVDs, where restrictions are looser.
"It's going to be difficult in the Gulf. We can't put the word 'sex' in the poster and how can you release a film without a title?" The Daily Express quoted Salim Ramia from Gulf Film, the company distributing the movie in the Middle East, as saying.
However, Carrie Bradshaw's 'Sex And the City' series, starring Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, a Manolo Blahnik-clad Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, has already been seen throughout the region on a popular pay-per-view channel called Showtime Arabia.
Still, no other country in the Middle East, other than Lebanon, which has the most liberal censors, may see a widespread cinema release for the big screen version of the series.
Meanwhile, the film hasn't yet secured a release date in China.
