US Weekly magazine has claimed that the actress was extremely distressed by the Australian actor's abuse of heroin, cocaine and pills during their three-year relationship.
Sources allege Williams begged Ledger, the father of her two-year-old daughter Matilda, to seek help because for his habit, reports the Telegraph.
She even drove him to the Promises Treatment Centre in Malibu, California, in March last year but Ledger refused to come out of the car and promised to kick the habit himself.
However, the actor, who died at the age of 28, later broke his promise to clean up on his own.
