Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl have signed on to star in the comedy The Ugly Truth.

Washington, Jan 30 : Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl have signed on to star in the comedy 'The Ugly Truth'.

Butler will be playing the role of Mike Alexander, the TV show host of 'The Ugly Truth' in the battle of the sexes comedy while Heigl will be playing the role of the romantically challenged show's producer.

How she is reluctantly embroiled by Butler in a series of outrageous tests to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love forms the plot of the pic.

Robert Luketic will be directing from a script penned by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, reports Variety.

Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing alongside Steve Reuther.

"Ugly Truth" is scheduled to begin shooting in April.

The Lakeshore Entertainment pic will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
