And while the former Beatle was engaged in looking for gifts, Mills was secretly hiring a firm to spy on him.
The 65-year-old legendary singer's driver delivered a 2,000-pound Cartier watch, a 5,000-pound gift card from Harvey Nichols and bags stuffed with top-of-the range beauty products.
The card had a message stating: "Have an amazing day, despite what's happened. Hope we can be friends. P x."
However as Macca was trying to be nice to the former model, Mills was in attack mode, for she hired a former M15 spy to try and make Sir Paul look like a bad dad.
Mills, dubbed Mucca by British tabloids due to her porn past, is terrified that Sir Paul will apply for full custody of four-year-old daughter Beatrice when their divorce hearing resumes next month.
So she is keen on snatching film footage of him drunk during the day.
The animal rights activist originally hired the team of investigators from Ireland for a week before Christmas to spy on her former husband - but was forced to cancel, and pay a 1,500-pound fee, as Sir Paul was still recovering from heart surgery and not drinking.
Mills has rebooked the 1,500-pounds- per-day detectives for a week-long watch later this month, when they will try and get secret film of the music legend drinking.
"Heather was furious when she had to cancel the first watch. She was convinced Paul was going to go out with a friend on a drinking session, and that she would be able to catch him," News of the World quoted a source, as saying.
"To be honest, if Sir Paul wants to go out with a friend and have a few drinks it has no bearing on his capability as a parent. But Heather is clutching at anything she can to make Paul look bad," the source added.
