The unattainable yummy mummy ideal puts pressure on modern mums

Every young mother wants to be a yummy mummy like Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie. But a new study has revealed that this unachievable ideal could actually put too much pressure on modern mums.

London, Feb 28 : Every young mother wants to be a "yummy mummy" like Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie. But a new study has revealed that this unachievable ideal could actually put too much pressure on modern mums.

The two surveys, carried out by YouGov and Netmums, for Nivea Soft, found that celebrity "role models" such as Victoria Beckham were making mothers feel inadequate and unsatisfied.

The report said that nearly 70 per cent of modern mums succumbed under the pressure of juggling family life with a successful career, while always looking perfectly groomed.

The study found that 81 per cent of mothers felt pressure to look sexy for their partner, while 37 per cent felt pressure to be a successful career woman, reports the Telegraph.

Posh Spice was voted as the most unrealistic role model by 42 per cent of mums, followed by Angelina Jolie, who was voted as an unlikely role model by 11 per cent of mothers.

The reports also said that 67 per cent believed they were seen solely as a mother rather than a woman.
