Washington, Feb 20 : Britney Spears' lawyer failed in their bid to win a gag order in the pop star's child-custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Anne Kiley, an attorney for Spears, argued that a gag order is necessary because the media coverage of Spears' case is 'emotionally and physically' dangerous for the 'Toxic singer.'
However, Los Angeles family court commissioner Scott Gordon declined Kiley's request for a ban on attorneys discussing the case with reporters, saying it wasn't the court's job to protect the pop star from paparazzi.
"The concern really is the conduct of the photographers. That's a law enforcement issue and an issue for the kind gentlemen and ladies of the press to deal with appropriately," People quoted Gordon, as saying.
"The concern you have is a real one. [But] it should be dealt with without infringing on the First Amendment," he added.
Neither Spears nor Federline was in court to attend the hearing.
