Ricci is convinced that the insecurities had kept her from going down the path of disaster that many former child stars had experienced.
The 27-year-old actress had gone through terrible self-esteem issues after she became one of Hollywood's most sought after actresses at the tender age of 11.
Christina, who had first achieved fame for her role as Wednesday Addams in the 1991 movie 'The Addams Family', revealed that she had inflicted self-harm and had eating disorders in her youth.
But the star insists that her insecurities were a blessing as they prevented her from developing an over-inflated ego.
"When I was younger and just starting to become successful, I was not able to enjoy it because I was so busy hating myself. I was too uncomfortable in my own skin," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
