Rocker Bono and artist Damien Hirst successfully raised more than 40 million dollars for AIDS relief in Africa through an art auction.

New York, Feb 16 : Rocker Bono and artist Damien Hirst successfully raised more than 40 million dollars for AIDS relief in Africa through an art auction.

Artist Damien Hirst's work 'Where There's a Will There's a Way' was the one to grab top price of 7.15 million dollars.

According to the organizers, all the proceedings of the auction went to charity RED that was founded by Bono and politician Bobby Shriver 18 months ago, reports the New York Daily News.

The event also set sale records for 17 artists.

The lists of the celebs who turned up at the Sotheby's auction house to bid for the work of 100 artists included Queen Noor, Michael Stipe, Dennis Hopper, Martha Stewart, Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen.
