Madge reveals her early showbiz struggles

Material Girl Madonna is happy that she did not resort to pole dancing as a career choice in her days as a struggling singer.

Washington, Feb 15 : Material Girl Madonna is happy that she did not resort to pole dancing as a career choice in her days as a struggling singer.

The 49-year-old popstar grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to New York in 1977 in the hope of finding fame.

And despite a monthly struggle to pay her rent, the superstar is pleased that she did not opt for performing in seedy establishments.

"If I look back to the beginning of my career I can recall those moments of struggle like it was yesterday," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.

She added: "The cold harsh reality when I arrived in New York (was) to find that there were thousands of girls that wanted to do the same thing, and I wasn't so special after all - that I was never going to be able to pay the rent ... and that I was going to have to do other things to feed myself. I didn't resort to pole dancing - I did other things."
