Ali G to big up Down Under?

Australian marketing chiefs are trying to rope in the comedy rapper Ali G in their campaign to lure British tourists and migrants Down Under.

London, Feb 15 : Australian marketing chiefs are trying to rope in the comedy 'rapper' Ali G in their campaign to lure British tourists and migrants Down Under.

Advertising boss Bill Muirhead is trying to lure Ali G's creator Sacha Baron Cohen to front a new marketing campaign.

The character would be filmed criticising "dreary, boring" London suburbs such as Staines and Bromley.

Baron Cohen would then "big up" the virtues of life in sunny and exciting Adelaide for the benefit of British viewers.Muirhead has approached the actor's reps asking Ali to appear in TV and cinema ads.

"I am the Agent General for South Australia in Europe. We are currently developing an awareness marketing campaign for migration and tourism for Adelaide, South Australia, to run here in the UK," The Sun quoted Muirhead, as saying in his e-mail to the actor.

"There is a skills shortage in over 65 different categories and professions. In short, we are looking for lots of migrants and tourists.

"I understand you represent Sacha Baron Cohen and we would be very keen to talk to you about his character Ali G. We have an idea for a TV and cinema commercial which takes a cheeky dig at some of the less attractive features of life in the UK.

"Things like housing prices, traffic congestion and dreary, boring places like Bromley, Croydon, Slough and Staines.

"We would like to use the Ali G character to front the campaign to represent the core values of the town of his birth.

"The script is that Ali G is typical of the people in Staines, and yet another reason to leave the UK," Muirhead added.
