Mel Gibson completes DUI probation terms

Actor Mel Gibson has been given all clear from the LA Superior Court after a judge concluded that he had met terms of his no-contest plea to the misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence.

New York, Feb 14 : Actor Mel Gibson has been given all clear from the LA Superior Court after a judge concluded that he had met terms of his no-contest plea to the misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence.

Judge Lawrence Mira has approved of the actor's progress.

Gibson will remain on probation for about 18 more months, but won't have report at Superior Court again.

"Assuming there is no violation on the terms of the probation, it will be finished at the end of 36 months," New York Post quoted Deputy District Attorney Gina Satriano, as saying.

The 'Hamlet' star was sentenced to three years of probation and was asked to pay about 1,600 dollars as fine.

She said Gibson has also volunteered to make a public service announcement.

The actor was arrested on July 28, 2006 for DUI while speeding in his vehicle with an open container of alcohol and was also accused of making the derogatory remarks about Jews to the sheriff's deputy who arrested him.

However, Gibson has repeatedly apologized for making the derogatory comments.
