JJ Abrams Star Trek release pushed back to 2009

Fans will have to wait a bit longer to view J.J. Abrams Star Trek what with Paramount pushing back the pics release to 2009.

Washington, Feb 14 : Fans will have to wait a bit longer to view J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" what with Paramount pushing back the pic's release to 2009.

The movie was scheduled to hit screens on Dec 25 this year, but the studio now thinks it will do better as a summer release and has thus pushed back the date to May 8, 2009.

The movie will revolve around the crew's early days at Starfleet Academy,

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci wrote the screenplay and will exec produce alongside Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof.

The move means that the pic will now open one week after 20th Century Fox bows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and one week before Sony is slated to bow sequel "Angels and Demons", reports Variety.

David Fincher's Brad Pitt starrer "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is moving from Nov. 26, 2008, to Dec. 19, 2008, with Renee Zellweger horror-thriller "Case 39" pushed back from Aug. 22, 2008, to April 10, 2009.

Variety also reports that like Paramount, other major studios are also likely to rework some of their releases in the wake of the writers' strike.
