Britains top black female models fury over racist monkey jibe

A black model in Britain has revealed that a fashion agent once horrified and sickened her by saying that she looked like a monkey.

London, August 12 : A black model in Britain has revealed that a fashion agent once "horrified and sickened" her by saying that she looked like a monkey.

Jasmia Robinson, 21, said that she just did not like the jibe that she faced at a casting.

"I was the only black model there.?One of the people running the casting said to my agent that I looked like a monkey," the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

She also accused agencies of not doing enough to recruit talent from ethnic minorities.

"There is even less opportunity if you are a young black girl," she said.

"People at the agencies still categorise me as a black model. I am a model, not a black model," she added.

Jasmia, who was runner-up to Abbey Clancy in the TV show Britain's Next Top Model, even criticised supermodel Naomi Campbell for not doing more to promote other black models in Britain.

"She should be highlighting the problems which exist for black girls in the fashion industry," she said.
