Rani Mukherjee petitions against order on Shirdi land deal

Bollywood actor Rani Mukherjee filed a petition in the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court challenging Ahmednagar District Collectorates order, which cancelled her ownership of a plot near Shirdi due to irregularities in the deal.

Mumbai, Apr 4 : Bollywood actor Rani Mukherjee filed a petition in the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court challenging Ahmednagar District Collectorate's order, which cancelled her ownership of a plot near Shirdi due to irregularities in the deal.

The petition will come up for hearing on April 9.

Rani's lawyer Nanasaheb Chaudhary said: "There are several discrepancies in the order passed by the District Collector and we disagree on several observations made in the order."

The Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Srirampur had ordered the cancellation of Rani's name from the sale deed executed in January this year and taken possession of the land.

As per the order, the land was an agricultural and required special permission from the government to transfer it to a non-farmer.

However, Rani's lawyer said only the Divisional Commissioner was empowered to conduct an inquiry under the Land Ceiling revision case.

The actress is said to have paid Rs 33 lakh in December 2005 for a farmland near Shirdi. Rani had paid a stamp duty of Rs 1.32 lakh for registration. But the title of the land could not be transferred to her name as it was an agriculture land belonging to a farmer.
