Pete Doherty chipper in jail, says Babyshambles bandmate

Despite reports that Pete Doherty has been put in a secluded prison, the troubled rocker is coping well behind the bars, according to Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell.

London, Apr 25 : Despite reports that Pete Doherty has been put in a secluded prison, the troubled rocker is coping well behind the bars, according to Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell.

Recent reports suggest that the Babyshambles frontman has been put into the segregation unit of London's notorious Wormwood Scrubs for his own safety.

While talking to Radio One's Newsbeat, McConnell has said that Pete's has been sending him letters, which indicate that he's not down in the dumps.

"You're not allowed to make phone calls but for a man behind bars, he sounds surprisingly chipper," the Mirror quoted McConnell, as saying.

He added: "He's being very positive about the whole situation, he's champing at the bit to play festivals this summer...Just to strap his guitar on again and be the front man in Babyshambles."

Recently, the band had to call off many gigs due to Pete's incarceration, including some European music festivals, and Pete even had to cancel one of his solo shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

Nevertheless, Babyshambles are still scheduled to play Glastonbury, only if Doherty remains untouched by more troubles and gets his release on time.Pete was sent behind the bars for 14 weeks on April 8 for breaching a probation order by failing drugs tests and missing court appointments after a series of brushes with the law for drugs and driving offences.
