Pregnancy risk makes bosses avoid female candidates

More than 75 percent of bosses would not hire a woman if they came to know that she was planning to start a family within six months of landing the job, a new survey in the UK has found.

London, Apr 21 : More than 75 percent of bosses would not hire a woman if they came to know that she was planning to start a family within six months of landing the job, a new survey in the UK has found.

As a part of the survey, a wide number of male and female bosses and personnel managers were questioned.

It was found that despite legislation to outlaw discrimination, more than half of bosses would try to deduce if the female candidate would get pregnant.

They do this by taking into account the candidate's age, and her marital status.

The survey found that 76 per cent would not employ a woman if they knew she was going to become pregnant within six months of starting, reports the Scotsman.

The survey also found that 68 percent of bosses want more rights to quiz candidates about whether or not they plan to start a family anytime soon.

Currently, a direct question to a prospective member of staff cannot be asked.
