Gere asked to mend cedar fence outside Bedford inn

Hollywood star Richard Gere has agreed to mend a cedar fence he has built outside his new country inn in Bedford, after being intimated by the authorities that its measurements are inconsistent with the town code.

New York, April 14 : Hollywood star Richard Gere has agreed to mend a cedar fence he has built outside his new country inn in Bedford, after being intimated by the authorities that its measurements are inconsistent with the town code.

The "Chicago" actor decided to put up the 180-foot-long, 5-foot-high fence after people in the vicinity complained that they did not want to see the inn's parking lot.

However, Bedford officials have now told Gere that the fence had not been constructed in accordance with the town code, and that they wanted it torn down.

"It's a lovely building, but the fence sticks out like a sore thumb," the New York Daily News quoted Hazel Nourse, head of Bedford's zoning board, as saying.

Gere's business partner Russell Hernandez has revealed that the actor is ready to make amends.

"If they say you have to have a 4-foot fence, then that's what we'll do," Hernandez said.
