Prince Charles hails Pavarotti as a prodigious talent

Prince Charles has hailed Luciano Pavarotti as a prodigious talent in a message of condolence following the death of the Italian tenor.

Washington, Sep 9 : Prince Charles has hailed Luciano Pavarotti as a "prodigious talent" in a message of condolence following the death of the Italian tenor.

The opera legend, 71, died on Sep 6 at his home in Modena, Northern Rome, after losing a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

The heir to the British throne is the latest high-profile personality to pay tributes to the tenor.

So far, words of admiration and sympathy have poured in from stars including Jose Carreras, Sir Elton John, Sting and Bono.

"(I am) profoundly grateful to have lived when such a prodigious talent inhabited this Earth," ontactmusic quoted the Prince, as saying.

Charles said that his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princes William and Harry were also mourning the singer's death.

"My wife and I and my sons join with countless others who mourn the passing of one of Italy's national treasures. The world will seem an emptier place without him and without his generosity of spirit," he said.
