Pavarotti was sick of listening to his own music

Luciano Pavarotti was one of the finest singers in the world, but the late opera legend had grown sick of listening to his own voice during his last days.

Washington, Sep 9 : Luciano Pavarotti was one of the finest singers in the world, but the late opera legend had grown sick of listening to his own voice during his last days.

Speaking in his last ever interview, the Italian legend admitted that rather than hearing himself, he preferred listening to the sounds of fellow tenor Placido Domingo.

The tenor added that though his illness barred him from performing with his peers Domingo and Jose Carreras, the three remained close friends right until the very end.

"Despite my condition, the fellowship of the Three Tenors has not been dissolved. Placido Domingo has come to see me a couple of times. Jose Carreras phones me," Contactmusic quoted Pavarotti, as saying.

"We had a great run. But I don't listen to myself any longer. I don't want to hear myself. If you were to invite me to dinner and, in an effort to please me, you put on one of my old records, I'd turn on my heels. If you wanted me to stay, then you could play me Placido," he added.

Pavarotti, 71, died on Sep 6 at his home in Modena, Northern Rome, after losing his long battle with cancer.
