The Italian town of Modena bade a loud goodbye to opera legend Luciano Pavarotti.
London, Sep 9 : The Italian town of Modena bade a loud goodbye to opera legend Luciano Pavarotti.
About 50,000 mourners paid tribute to one of Opera's greatest tenors at his funeral in his hometown on Sep 8.
Family members, friends and special guests packed Modena Cathedral for a mass for the revered tenor, reports the BBC.
Sitting on opposite sides of the cathedral were his two wives - Adua Veroni and Nicoletta Mantovani.
Those present also included Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, former UN chief Kofi Annan, U2 rock star Bono and Italian film director Franco Zeffirelli.
The mass itself was a richly musical occasion, with soprano Raina Kabaivanska and Pavarotti's close friend, the blind tenor Andrea Bocelli rendering performances.
But its highlight was the finale, which was a recording from the 1990s, wherein Pavarotti and his father performed "Panis Angelicus" together.
Pavarotti's coffin was taken to rest at the Montale Rangone cemetery near his villa, where his parents and his stillborn son Riccardo are buried.
The opera legend, 71, died on Sep 6 at his home in Modena, Northern Rome, after losing a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
