Julie Delpy reveals what strains Franco-US relations

French actress Julie Delpy says that the invocation of God by US President George W. Bush is a major cause of differences between France and America.

London, September 7 : French actress Julie Delpy says that the invocation of God by US President George W. Bush is a major cause of differences between France and America.

She insists that unlike America, State and Church are not mixed in France.

"The one thing the French really hate about America is the way that Bush invokes God. It's scary and lunatic," the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

"In France, church and state have long been separate. Bush gives the impression that God has put him in power. It is not that I'm anti-religious, it is just that Bush has made it such a part of politics," she added.

Julie also looks at the complicated relations between the two countries in her new film Two Days In Paris, written and directed by the actress herself.

She also said that "dysfunctional" American family relationships irked her.

"They say how important the family is but elderly parents are never looked after as we do in France," she said.

However, she admires the US on one moral ground.

"In France, it seems to be OK for a 13-year-old child actress to date a 60-year-old man. In the US, that is looked down upon. I think the Americans have it right on this count," she said.
