London, Sept 4 : Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has admitted that he "totally appalled and disgusted' to learn that his best friend sexually assaulted an underage girl at his 18th birthday bash last September.
Joshua Lodge was due to stand for trial on Sept 3, but as both parties were drunk at the time, prosecutors decided to let him off with a caution. He also had to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
"All sides had too much to drink. A decision was taken that a caution was appropriate," the Sun quoted Prosecutor Ann Evans, as saying.
The actor, who plays Ron Weasley in the Potter series, said that he will back the victim in such cases
"I am 100 per cent behind the victim in this case and victims affected by this type of crime," Grint said.
Lodge's mum said that the incident has ruined the two's friendship.
