Washington, Sept 29 : Expecting mum Nicole Richie has signed up for an eighteen-month anti-drinking driver education program, according to papers filed with the Superior Court of California.
The Santa Barbara Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has mentioned on its Website that the program is meant for people who have been convicted of DUI on more than one occasion within a 7-year period.
The program known as SB 38 consists of 52 hours of group counselling, bi-weekly face-to-face interviews and 12 hours of alcohol education. Participants are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings.
Last year, Richie was arrested on Dec. 11 after CHP officers were alerted to a black Mercedes SUV driving the wrong way down Southern California's Highway 134.
The actress was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs after failing a field sobriety test and admitting to police that she had smoked marijuana and took Vicodin earlier that evening.
The 26-year-old actress was sentenced to four days in jail and was fined 2,048 dollars this July. However, she only spent a total of 82 minutes behind bars.
She was also forced to enroll for the driving rehab course because she was previously convicted of DUI in June 2003.
