Gil Cates to produce 80th Academy Awards

Gil Cates has been given the task of ensuring that the 80th Academy Awards are an affair to remember.

Washington, Sept 11 : Gil Cates has been given the task of ensuring that the 80th Academy Awards are an affair to remember.

The Oscars take place February 24th at the Kodak Theater, and Cates has been chosen to produce the event.

And he certainly has enough of experience making sure that everything runs like clockwork, for Cates has produced the Academy Awards a record 14 times.

The announcement was made on Monday by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Sid Ganis, who praised Cates for being "so creative and inventive, and so enormously passionate about the Oscars."

Cates himself is extremely excited about working on the 80th Oscars.

"I love the Oscars, and it's a great treat to be asked back for the 80th presentation," Variety quoted Cates, as saying.

Cates most recently produced the Oscarcast in 2006.

His 13 installments to date have earned 99 Emmy nominations and 25 wins, including a win in the category of variety, comedy or music program for the Cates-produced 1991 telecast.
