Ugly Betty star America Ferrera has been named as the Hispanic Woman of the Year by Billboard and the Hollywood Reporter.
Washington, Oct 6: 'Ugly Betty' star America Ferrera has been named as the 'Hispanic Woman of the Year' by Billboard and the Hollywood Reporter.
The 23-year old actress is on cloud number nine with the acclaim given to her.
"It's an honour to be in such esteemed company. And it's a thrill to see talented women recognised for their work behind the camera," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
In the hit TV show, America plays the role of a nerdy personal assistant, Betty Suarez.
The star will be honoured at the inaugural Hispanic Women in Entertainment breakfast at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Tuesday.
Publisher John Kilcullen commended America calling her the leader of the Hispanic community.
"Ferrara is a leader for all women, but especially those in the Hispanic community. She is dedicated to advancing the position of Hispanics in television and film," he said.
Recently, Ferrera was awarded the 'Latina Leader' title by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
Adding new achievements to her list, she has also featured in the Hispanic Business Magazine's 2007 list of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics.
