The Exorcist has been voted the Scariest Film of All Time, according to a poll conducted by MSN Movies.

Washington, Oct 31 : 'The Exorcist' has been voted the Scariest Film of All Time, according to a poll conducted by MSN Movies.

Of more than 5,000 fans surveyed, one in five picked the 1973 flick, followed by the 'Saw' series and Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining' at third and fourth position respectively.

Other films in the top ten included 'The Omen,' 'Jaws' and 'The Blair Witch Project,' reports Contactmusic.

Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of Hannibal Lector was voted the most frightening movie villain in the poll.

Sigourney Ripley's portrayal of Ellen Ripley in 'Alien,' Jodie Foster's role as Clarice Starling in 'The Silence of the Lambs' and Roy Scheider's role as Chief Martin Brody in 'Jaws' were named the greatest horror heroes.
