Washington, Oct 29 : Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has blasted people who protested against her kiss with Hollywood actor Richard Gere by burning effigies.
The 32-year-old actress, who became the subject of national controversy in India after she was kissed by the 'Pretty Woman' star several times in jest on the cheek at an AIDS-awareness event, has branded the protestors 'lunatics'.
"I was shocked people reacted that way but it was just a lunatic fringe trying to gain political mileage," Contactmusic quoted Shetty, as saying.
"Most Indian people are not like that. I belong to the newer generation and we were appalled by the reaction," she added.
The Celebrity Big Brother winner also the subject of an arrest warrant for breaking public decency laws.
However, India's Supreme Court later suspended the charges against the actress.
But last month she was "hassled" by immigration officials at Mumbai airport who thought she still had to face charges.
