London, Oct 24 : Italian prosecutors have launched a criminal probe into claims that late opera singer Luciano Pavarotti was coerced into leaving his entire 12million poun to his second wife.
The tenor signed a new will just six weeks before he passed away, and stipulated in it that wife Nicoletta would be getting his entire US estate, including a New York apartment, furniture and art.
Massimo Di Patria, a prosecutor in Pesaro - where Pavarotti had a seaside villa - said that the claims that the tenor had been coerced were 'very serious' and warranted an inquiry.
"What is being suggested is very serious," The Sun quoted him, a saying.
"I will be looking to see if Pavarotti was coerced - that he had no idea he was signing because of his state of mind."
However Nicoletta's lawyer rubbished the claims saying: "I find this accusation deeply offensive."
Pavarotti's London agent Terri Robson also insisted that the tenor had known what he was doing when he signed the second will.
"He knew exactly what he was doing," he said.
Pavarotti's three daughters from his first marriage - Giuliana, Lorenza and Cristina - were left all his other belongings in an earlier will. They are now set to contest the will.
