Sophia Loren has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival.

London, Oct 20 : Sophia Loren has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Rome Film Festival.

The 73-year-old actress was given the honour at a red carpet ceremony in the Italian capital on Oct 18.

The 'Two Women' star said that she was very delighted to receive the recognition.

"It's the first time I have had a career award in Italy. I hope I deserve it!" BBC quoted her, as saying.At the event, Friday was branded as "Loren Day" which kicked off a retrospective of her works including the screening of one of her most famous films, "Marriage Italian Style".

The film festival, which runs until 27 October, also includes appearances by Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Redford and Halle Berry.
