Washington, October 2 : An exhibition of photographs from Sir Elton John's personal collection has been closed just nine days after it opened, as the cops are assessing whether one of the pictures they seized breaches the pornographic legislation.
The photographs were taken off public display on the musician's own request to gallery bosses at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
Seized by detectives on September 20, the photograph was among 149 photographs by controversial American photographer Nan Goldin, which formed the 'Thanksgiving' exhibition, which was due to run until 20 January 2008.
"Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art at the request of the Sir Elton John Photography Collection has closed the exhibition, Thanksgiving, by Nan Goldin," the Daily Mail quoted a Baltic spokesman as saying.
"After the removal of one image from the series it was no longer possible for Baltic to exhibit the collection of works as the artist intended and therefore Baltic is sympathetic to Sir Elton John's request and supportive of the decision," he added.
Entitled Klara And Edda Belly-dancing, the controversial picture features two naked young girls.
