Cops raid doctors offices in Anna Nicole death probe

Late model/actress Anna Nicole Smiths physicians received a rude awakening on Oct 12, when their homes were raided by California Department of Justice in connection to her death.

Washington, Oct 13 : Late model/actress Anna Nicole Smith's physicians received a rude awakening on Oct 12, when their homes were raided by California Department of Justice in connection to her death.

The massive investigation took place nine months after Smith died of a fatal drug overdose.

California authorities raided six locations, including the offices and residences of two of Smith's former doctors, psychiatrist Khristine Eroshevich and physician Sandeep Kapoor, confirmed the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

Attorney General Jerry Brown declared at a press conference that the raids, which took place in Los Angeles and Orange counties, were launched as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into Smith's death.

Although the death was ruled accidental, Brown isn't convinced there's no one to blame.

"Obviously, to get a search warrant, you need probable cause," E!Online quoted Brown, as saying.

"You don't go to a judge and get a search warrant for someone's home if you don't think some serious crime has been committed. Prescribing drugs in an illegal manner can be criminal," he added.

However, as yet no charges have been filed, and no one has been arrested.

Brown has not revealed where the investigation would go after this but has indicated that people under investigation could land in some serious trouble.

"There are various issues here...I'm not going to speculate on who's going to go to jail and who won't, but you can assume there's some serious evidence to prompt a judge to issue [a search warrant]," he said.

Eroshevich's Studio City home was searched by State Justice Department officials, along with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and local law enforcement.

Eroshevich travelled with Smith on her final Florida trip and had prescribed her 11 medications found in the 39-year-old model's hotel room, where she expired on Feb. 8. He allegedly provided upwards of 600 pills to Smith in the month leading up to her death.

Kapoor prescribed methadone to Smith under several pseudonyms shortly before her death. His attorney has also confirmed that her client's home and offices were raided.

Brown said that the new findings gave "some indication," though "not a complete picture," of the investigation.

"We're looking into a number of possible violations, what the specific ones are we're not going to say. We're not going to limit our investigation...We don't want to jeopardize anything by premature statements and speculation," he said.
