JK Rowling breaks down at Pride of Britain Awards

Harry Potter author JK Rowling broke down at the Pride of Britain Awards on Oct 9, while presenting Megan Blunt with her Child of Courage Award.

London, Oct 10 : Harry Potter author JK Rowling broke down at the Pride of Britain Awards on Oct 9, while presenting Megan Blunt with her Child of Courage Award.

Wiping her tears, the best-seller author praised the 15-year-old cancer survivor, who has written a book to motivate other children living with the disease.

"I want to give you this and I want to say if ever a book changed lives, it's yours," the Mirror quoted Rowling, as stating at the awards ceremony.

Rowling burst into tears again when the star of Harry Potter film series, Emma Watson presented the writer with her own Special Recognition Award.

"I'm a complete wreck, I've been crying since the baby on the plane (the first award of the night). I don't think I've ever been in such illustrious company as I have tonight," Rowling said.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and wife Sarah handed over the Special Recognition Award to Glasgow heroes John Smeaton, Stephen Clarkson, Alex McIlveen and Michael Kerr.

The event, that took place at The London Studios, celebrates the UK's real life heroes.

Others present at the ceremony included Prince Charles, Ewan McGregor, Peter Kay, Westlife, the Sugababes, Ant and Dec, Stephen Fry, Kelly Brook and Dame Shirley Bassey.
